How to Find a Good Removal Company in London

Most people book a removal company exactly once. Maybe twice in their lifetime, if the first one was a disaster. That makes it hard to know what's normal, what's suspicious, and what the difference between a £180 quote and a £480 quote actually means.

Here's what we've learned from doing 2,400+ London moves.

Look at the reviews — but read them carefully

A 4.9 rating from 12 reviews means less than a 4.7 from 340. Anyone can manufacture five-star reviews in the early months. What you want is a company with a large review base, and one where the critical reviews (there will be some) were actually responded to.

Read the three-star reviews specifically. They tend to be the most honest. "Crew were great but the van was smaller than expected" tells you something real. "Worst experience of my life" from a single reviewer tells you less.

Check they know London specifically

A removal company that operates nationally isn't wrong, but they may not know that your Barbican building needs a pre-booked service lift, your street has restricted loading hours, or your route crosses the ULEZ boundary on both ends.

Ask one question before booking anyone:

• Are ULEZ and Congestion Charge included in the quote?

If they give a vague answer, dig further. Some companies price attractively and invoice London charges after the job.

Get the quote in writing

Not a ballpark. Not "it depends." A written quote with crew size, estimated hours, distance, all surcharges, and a clear statement of what happens if the move takes longer than expected.

A legitimate company will ask enough questions to price it properly: number of floors, working lifts, property size, any special items, origin postcode, and destination. If a quote appears in under two minutes of a phone call with no follow-up questions, be cautious.

What comparison sites aren't telling you

Removal comparison sites are lead-generation businesses. The companies at the top of the list are often there because they pay to be, not because they're the best. Read the actual reviews on Google and Trustpilot, not on the aggregator's own platform.

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest move. An experienced crew that takes three hours costs less in total than an inexperienced one that takes seven.
