Help
Questions we get asked a lot.
London moves come with a specific set of complications — Victorian staircases, red routes, buildings that require service lift bookings. We've answered the ones that come up most.
Pricing
Four things decide it: how much you're moving, how far it's going, how easy the access is at both ends, and whether you want extras like packing or dismantling. Give us those and we'll come back with a clear figure — not a vague hourly estimate you can't budget around. The price we confirm before you book is the price you pay, unless the job genuinely changes on the day, in which case we talk to you first.
Van, fuel, the crew's time, and all the protective kit — blankets, wrap, straps, corner protectors. Loading and unloading, obviously. Parking suspensions and council permits, where they're needed, are charged at cost and flagged before you book.
There's no separate stairs bill landing later. Floors, lifts, long carries, narrow staircases — access is priced in from the start, which is why we ask about it when you enquire. A fourth-floor conversion in Tooting with no lift is a different job from a ground-floor flat in Morden, and we'd rather price that honestly upfront than renegotiate on your doorstep.
Saturday and Sunday slots are a little more, and they fill up further ahead than weekdays. If your dates move, Monday to Friday is cheaper. If they don't, tell us early — weekend availability around month-end and completion dates goes fast.
A deposit holds your date; we confirm the amount with your quote. The balance is due on completion, once everything's unloaded and you're happy with it. Bank transfer, card or cash.
Booking
Fill in the online form and we'll confirm a price within 30 minutes — usually faster during working hours. For complex moves (specialist items, commercial premises, listed buildings), we may ask for a quick call first.
Sometimes. Call or WhatsApp us and we'll check van availability. Short-notice jobs cost a bit more, and we'll tell you the figure before you commit to anything. We do a lot of last-minute rescues after another company drops out — it happens more than you'd think.
Cancel with at least 48 hours' notice and your deposit comes back in full. Inside 48 hours, or once the crew has started, a charge may apply — we confirm it with your quote so it's never a surprise. If we cancel on you for a reason within our control, you pay nothing and we'll help you find another firm for the date.
Yes — free of charge with at least 48 hours' notice. Inside that window it depends on whether we can refill the slot; we'll tell you upfront if there's a charge, and never apply one without saying so first.
On the day
Morning slots start between 7am and 10am; afternoon slots between 12pm and 3pm. We'll send an ETA the evening before, and the driver will call 30 minutes out. We build buffer time into every job — London traffic being what it is.
A standard two-bed flat across five miles with a working lift at both ends: roughly four to five hours. Add Victorian staircases, a piano, and a 15-mile run across the city — budget seven to eight hours. We've never left a job unfinished; the crew stay until everything is in the right room.
Boxes sealed and labelled by room, walkways clear, valuables (jewellery, documents, laptops) set aside for you to carry yourself. Defrost the freezer 24 hours before if it's coming with you. Let building management know if there are lift booking requirements — we'll handle the logistics.
Someone over 18 needs to be at both pickup and drop-off to sign off the job. If you can't be there yourself, a friend or family member is fine — just make sure they have access and can make decisions on the spot.
Your property
Yes — Victorian terraces are our bread and butter. Narrow staircases, tight corner turns, sash windows that rattle. We use specialist stair equipment and smaller carrying frames built for UK stair widths. Tell us the floor and whether there's a lift when you enquire, and the extra time is already in the price you're quoted.
Yes. We book service lifts in advance where buildings require it. For very high floors (above 15 or so), we may need to assess load limits and split the job across lift trips — this is factored into the time estimate, not invoiced separately.
Tell us at booking. Listed buildings sometimes restrict large vehicles to certain hours; gated estates may need 48-hour vehicle registration. We've handled both. Just give us the detail and we'll work around it — preferably before the day itself.
London logistics
All 32 London boroughs plus Surrey and Guildford — Central, North, South, East, and West London, KT, SM, and GU postcodes. Full coverage including areas other companies quote as 'difficult': Hampstead, Dulwich, the Barbican, Canary Wharf.
Yes — Surrey and Guildford are among our most common destinations, and we cover the wider South East. London-to-Surrey moves are priced as standard jobs with no additional zone premium. For further destinations, we'll quote a fixed day rate upfront — no hidden extras at the other end.
Packing
Yes. We bring all the materials — double-wall boxes, tissue paper, bubble wrap, wardrobe boxes with hanging rails. Most two-bed flats take two packers three to four hours, and we'll price it with the rest of the job. We can pack the day before the move or on the morning, whichever works better for you.
We'll move them with the same care as everything else. Pack them securely and label them clearly — 'owner packed' and the destination room. If a box arrives damaged, it helps to know it wasn't sealed by the crew so we can assess what happened.
Hazardous materials — gas canisters, paint tins, corrosives, aerosols — plus firearms, ammunition and controlled substances. Live animals and fish don't travel with us either, and perishable food is best not to. Keep cash, passports and anything irreplaceable in your own bag. Anything needing electrical or plumbing disconnection, like a fitted kitchen or built-in appliance, wants a tradesperson before we arrive.
Standard flat-pack — yes. Beds, wardrobes, dining tables. We bring tools and Allen keys. Built-in furniture, fitted wardrobes, or anything requiring specialist fixings is outside our scope. If in doubt, ask us when you book and we'll be straight with you about what we can and can't do.
Care & handling
Wrapping happens before anything leaves the room. Transit blankets over furniture, stretch wrap on anything upholstered, corner protectors on tables and units, covers on mattresses. Mirrors and screens travel flat and secured, never wedged upright between boxes. Most of the damage in this trade comes from a loose load shifting on the road, so our crews are trained to pack the van tight and strap in layers.
Honestly, what keeps your things safe is the wrapping and the loading — blankets over furniture, corners protected, the load packed tight and strapped in layers so nothing shifts on the road. That's where our attention goes, and it's what we'd want you to judge us on. If you're moving something you'd be particularly sorry to lose, tell us before you book and we'll talk through how we'd handle it.
Tell the crew there and then. We note it at handover, photograph it and log it before we leave. If you spot something later, email info@aceukremovals.co.uk within 7 days with photos and we'll deal with it properly. We'd far rather hear about a problem on the day than a fortnight after — it's easier to put right, and we'd like the chance to.
Please do, at booking rather than on the morning. Anything over £500, anything antique, and anything awkward — a piano, a marble worktop, a large framed piece — changes how we plan the job: crew size, materials, loading order. Passports, jewellery and cash are best in your own bag rather than the van.
