When a man and van beats a full crew
Not every move needs a 7.5-tonne Luton and three movers. If you are shifting a studio, collecting a bed from a friend in Peckham, or moving a few boxes and a sofa across town, a man and van is the right-sized answer — one trained mover, one transit van, charged by the hour.
You pay for the time the job actually takes, not a padded day rate. A two-hour collection and drop-off costs two hours, and if the job runs short you are not billed for a full day you did not use. It is the honest way to price a small move.

What people actually use it for
A man and van covers the jobs that fall between hiring a car and booking a full removal. The regulars are flat-pack runs from the IKEA at Greenwich or Wembley, Marketplace and Gumtree pickups that will not fit in a hatchback, and student moves at the start and end of term.
It is also the sensible choice for a storage run — dropping a few boxes into a unit in Wandsworth and back — or clearing a single room ahead of a decorator. If it is more than a car can carry but less than a house, this is usually the fit.
How the hourly pricing works
The man and van is one mover and a van, charged by the hour, with most small jobs landing in a two-to-four-hour range once loading, the drive and unloading are counted. A typical single-room move across a few miles is a short job.
You get the range up front, confirmed on a quick call, and can add a second mover at any point if a wardrobe will not turn on the landing. Weekend and evening slots carry a higher rate, shown before you book rather than after.
You pay for the time the job takes. Two hours is two hours — no padded day rate, and no van you have to fill.

The rule of thumb: if it is a room or a handful of large items, the man and van by the hour is the better value. Once there is a flat-worth of furniture, dismantling to do, or a fixed completion time to hit, a planned house-removal crew on an agreed price is the safer bet.

How much can a man and van fit?
A long-wheelbase Transit up to 3.5 tonnes takes roughly a studio or one-bed flat in a single run. For a two-bed or more we would usually recommend a Luton and a second mover.
Can I book a man and van same day in London?

Do you help load and unload, or just drive?
The mover loads, drives and unloads with you — straps, blankets and a trolley included. This is not a self-drive hire.
